As a reminder,
Sammie Lee Acker, 75 years old, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at his sister’s house in DeRidder, Louisiana. He was the husband of Susan Acker and they shared 23 years of marriage together.
Born in DeRidder, Louisiana, he was the son of Sammie and Helen Ray Acker. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School. He was employed at the Houston Police Department as a police officer for over 20 years before he retired.
He was the President of The Crusaders motorcycle club and also a veteran sergeant of the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed many things in life including traveling, riding his motorcycles, boating and working on projects around the house, including yard work. Among many things he will be remembered for is being fun- loving, full of life and laughter and helping others.
He is predeceased by his parents, Sammie and Helen Ray Acker and his oldest sister, Eva Acker.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Acker; brother, Christopher Ray Washington; sisters, Frankie Jones (Jonas Jones) and Pecola Acker; sister- in- law, Ardean Barefield; daughters, Diandra Freeman and Courtney Acker; sons, Sammie Acker Jr., Jason Acker and Michael Sheppard; grandchildren, Quban Hall, Kaelin Pleasant and JaVia Acker and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends who loved him dearly.
Guests are invited to share in a Celebration of Life Visitation from 2-3:00 p.m., followed by 3:00 p.m. Funeral Services on Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, TX 77591.
Interment will take place at Houston Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 4th, 2021.
