Mack Davis

   On May 17, 2021 at 1:33pm, Mack Talbert Davis, 75, passed away peacefully at his home with wife and children after a long fight to overcome several critical events during hospitalization.  

   He was a mountain of a man who was a kind and loving husband to Carol Frances “Fran” Davis whom he shared 56 years of marriage together. He was a graduate of Philippi High School in Philippi, West Virginia.  Enlisting in the United States Army after school, he served in Korea then served as a tank instructor at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland until discharge.  Mack enlisted in the US Navy CB s “Construction Battalion” serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was discharged from the Navy October 10, 1969.

   After military service and a short time driving tractor-trailer, he worked in many states as heavy equipment operator/foreman building major highways.  Mack also worked in the surface coal mine industry as well and prior to his retirement in October 2008, he worked many years in pipeline construction/maintenance.  His sons follow in his career in pipeline construction and infrastructure as well. Mack was a member of IUOE Local 147 in Norfolk, VA and working out of many others as well.

   Mack also appreciated his hobby with class car restoring as well as engine rebuilding and drag racing.  He also was an enthusiastic hunter, boater, and fisherman.

   Mack is survived by and was a devoted to four children, Christine Pharis (Jeff,deceased), Mack Davis Jr.(Becky), James Davis (Katrina) all residing in Belington, WV and Barbara Monte (Marty,deceased) of Texas City, Texas. He as well was a very devoted grandfather to seven amazing grandchildren and many precious great-grandchildren.

   Mack was raised and born in West Virginia, he raised his family there before traveling to Florida and then ultimately residing in Texas City, TX.  He is the son of the late James Lloyd Davis and Mabel Bertha Davis Harris.Mack has five siblings Alice McNeely (Charles) of Pontiac MI, Wendy Oxis (Jim) of Orlando, WV, Billy Ray Davis (Kathy) of Moatsville, WV, and was preceded in death by Jane Kelley, James Davis Jr (Carol deceased) and Bobby Davis.

            Guests are invited to share in a Celebration of Life Visitation from 10-11:00 a.m., followed by 11:00 a.m. Funeral Services on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, TX 77591. Interment will take place following services at 1:45 p.m. in the Houston National Cemetery.
