Ida Spells

Ida was born in Egypt, Texas on November 12th, 1924.  The place that God had prepared for her was ready for move in on January 12th, 2014.  Although she enjoyed her eighty-nine years here on Earth, she couldn’t pass up the invitation that was extended to her for eternal rest.

    She is preceded in death by parents, Emmitt and Viola Heard; brother, James Heard, and both husbands, M.C.   Baylark and Walter Spells.

    Sister Spells was the second born to the late Emmitt and Viola Heard.  She attended Vocational School in Egypt, Texas and received her diploma in 1941. Her family later moved to the Texas City, Texas area in 1943. Shortly thereafter, she married M.C. Baylark in 1945. From this union one daughter was born, Carolyn Baylark. She would then later move to Richmond, Texas where she met her late husband, Walter Spells.  She remained a resident of Richmond until she was unable to care for herself.

    Ms. Ida accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church (Rev. Travis Durst).  She later joined her family at Greater Barbour’s Chapel (Pastor Andrew Berry II.)  Ida was a member of the Masonic Grand Chapter Eastern Stars.

    Ida Spells is survived by daughter, Carolyn Dickey (Carl) of Texas City, Texas; step-daughter, Betty-Jean Spells of Richmond, Texas; sister, Viola Smith of Texas City, Texas; two grandchildren; Carl A. Dickey Jr. and Kimberly Dickey, both of Texas City, Texas; great-grandchild, Trenton O.    Russell of Texas City, Texas; two god-children, Doris Young of Houston Texas and Rev. Michael James of Texas City, Texas.  Ms. Spells also had numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that will greatly miss her.
