Callie Greer


A beautiful girl was born December 24, 1938 in Florien, LA. to the late Ben and Bertha Maxie. Callie Lee Maxie was the ninth of ten children.  She accepted Christ at an early age and later was united in marriage to Eddie Curtis Greer and moved to Texas City, TX. She joined Rising Star  Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City under the leadership of Rev. D. N Benford Sr.

Callie was a loving wife, supportive mother, sister, and friend. She was known as "Wanky" by her husband of 56 years of marriage. During their unity they had six children; son Michael Curtis Greer; daughters, Betty (Roosevelt) Richard, Shirley (preceded in death), Shelia George (Dwight) Joseph, Denise Quarterman, and Tonyia (Leroy) Purdy. Also four step children Raymond (Rita) Allen, LeNora Augustine, Vera Cooper (Douglas) and Wanda Faye Praylor. Later Callie became known to everyone as "Big Momma". 

Callie is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shirley Greer; siblings, Eula Hickman, Zulie Maxie-Boddie, Lonzo, Glen Ray, George and Medford Maxie. Also among them nieces and nephews that were special to her. 

Callie leave to cherish her memories her husband, children, 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, her   siblings Josie Maxie, Tony Maxie, and Earl (Yvonne) Maxie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
