Bobby Douglas Rose

Bobby Rose

Bobby Douglas “Doug” Rose, Jr.’s life ended peacefully surrounded by his family at home on August 29, 2021 two days short of his 63rd birthday.

He is preceded in death by his dad, Bobby D Rose Sr. and younger brother, David Tallant Rose.

He is survived by his devoted mother, Ann Jeanine Rose, sister, Jeanie Tinkle (Randy), devoted and special niece, Erin and nephew, David Tinkle.

Doug was born in Texas City on August 31, 1958. He spent his childhood living on the water from the shores of the Great Lakes to the Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast. As a United States Navy veteran and the son of a Coast Guard officer, he followed his dad’s footsteps having a long career in the maritime industry as a tugboat captain.

Doug will always be remembered for his resistance to conformity. He loathed dressing in anything other than used clothes and flip flops. He was the original “minimalist”; never owned more than two to three outfits, never matching but always clean.  Same applied to his home environment; he never had or desired more than two of anything.

It was rare for him to splurge on anything with one exception— a good, high stakes poker game.  For him it was less about winning and more of the camaraderie with his poker buddies who affectionately referred to him as the “Oak Tree” and “Dougie Fresh”.  It was not rare for him to splurge on others as he was always eager to help friends and family in need.

His greatest attributes were his disdain for materialism, extreme generosity, natural sense of humor, and his preference of animals over people. Recently, he stopped traffic on a busy street to save the life of a turtle whilst it was crossing the road.

Private services will be held at a later date. He will be cremated and interment of his ashes be placed near his brother and dad.
