Yotarsha Menyonne Wisby Barker

Yotarsha Barker Yotarsha Menyonne Wisby Barker answered a Clarion Call on Thursday, December 21, 2017 after a brief encounter with illness. “BB”, as she was known to family and friends never met a stranger and therefore she met illness and death with the same tenacity and vigor that she displayed in her life. Being the expert on “My Time” she arrived everywhere with little or no notice but definitely noticeable. “BB” was born to Josie and Ernest Wisby, Jr., Saturday, November 24, 1956 and the world would never be the same. She was outstanding in every aspect of the word. She was known for her ability to overwhelm the crowd and she made that happen her entire life. Everyone loved her and always will. Yotarsha graduated from Texas City High School in the Class of 1975. She was the first Black student to be selected as a Cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. She Graduated from Texas Southern University in Houston, TX and perused a career in education at the Ambassador Preparatory Academy in Galveston, TX. Owning her own business was a must have and very early in her career she successfully opened and operated Yotarsha’s Décor. She married and gave birth to two wonderful children, Jarrail Jackson and Jamiece Jackson. She later married Michael Wayne Barker and they would enjoy many years of fruitful companionship. Yotarsha is preceded in death by her grandparents Rev. Ernest Wisby, Sr. and Mrs. Artis Evans Wisby; mother, Josie Torry; granddaughter, Janise Kent Jackson; mother in law, Mrs. Thelma Barker and other relatives and friends. Cherishing her, larger than life, memory is her husband, Michael Wayne Barker; father, Ernest Wisby, Jr.; children, Jarrail Jackson, Jamiece Jackson, Darrick Smith, Tanisha Barker, Yolanda Barker, Michael W Barker, Jr., Michael W Barker, III, Mikah Barker; Seven grandchildren; siblings, Desiree Wisby Hicks (Charles), Ernest “Pop” Wisby, Varnessa Anderson (Robert), Nadis Rodriguez (Vincent), Nikki Wisby-Hawkins (Charles); uncle, Emmitt Wisby; in-laws Connie Justice and Harold Barker, and many cousins, friends, and relatives. An Evening Visitation, where the family will meet friends and others, is planned for Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591. A Service to Celebration Yotarsha Menyonne Wisby Barker’s Life will be Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church 3826 Wheeler Avenue Houston TX 77004.
