Willie Mae Clay
Mrs. Willie Mae Clay, age 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Bayou Pines Nursing Home. She was born in Honey Island, Texas on September 17, 1915 to the Late Steve and Donie Lacy.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Clay, sons, Eddie Ray Horn, Norris Horn, Chester Clay Jr. and daughter Melba Jean Nolan. She is survived by a son, Bobbie Louis Armstrong, Sr., a daughter Alrethia (& Elton) Dotson, Jr. and a god-daughter, Rhonda Jones. Known as “Baby” to some and “Grandma or Ol’ Grandma” to others. Willie Mae had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
Willie Mae and her family moved to Galveston in the 1950’s and quickly found a home at Jerusalem Baptist Church. She had been an active member and served diligently in various missions over the years. She gave her love heartily and will be missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held Friday, December 7th at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas. Visitation will begin promptly at 11am until the time of service at 1pm. Burial will follow at the Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas. The family would like to extend our gratitude to the entire staff at Bayou Pines Nursing Home for the attentiveness and loving care given to Willie Mae. Memorials may be made in Willie Mae’s name to Carnes Funeral Home.
