William Atkinson Benson
William Atkinson Benson, 76, of Texas City, TX passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019. He was born in Hope, AR on June 15, 1942 to Chester and Nobie Ann Benson. Bill was uniquely different and lived differently than most. However, in spite of his quirkiness, he loved his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren, even his former wives very much. He was a
paratrooper and served in the 101.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary and Sandra; daughters, Ann and Linda Benson; and granddaughter, Amanda Ann Benson. He is survived by his loving daughters, Cindy Benson, Kathleen Benson Torres and husband Henry, Billie Allison Irwin and husband Dustin and Wendy Jordan and Jeff; grandchildren, Shirley Benson Martin, Juanito Medina, Natalie Arriola, Carlos Medina, Travis Medina, Shelby Lynn Bradley, Cole Rogers and Jearica Young Rodriguez; great grandchildren, Jade Arriola, Juan Medina, Jr., Jay Medina, Jaden Medina, Savannah Medina and Tristian Thompson.
A special highlight in Bill’s life was his son-in-law Henry Torres. Henry was the unselfish, genuinely giving caretaker who was always there for Bill as well as Kathy. Most importantly, he was the son Bill never had. Also, his special friend, that was there to the end, Donnie Saylor, whose shared love for music ensured Bill that the sound will always go on.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm in the Chapel of Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Frwy, Texas City, TX 77591 with Bill’s Celebration of Life to follow at 4:00pm with Pastor Mario Gutierrez officiating.
