Virgil Mabrin Calhoun Jr.
Virgil Mabrin Calhoun Jr. was born in Galveston, Texas on July 20, 1934. He departed this world on July 18, 2017, two days before his eighty-third birthday.
Virgil enlisted in the United States Army and later re-enlisted in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharged. After his military career, Virgil began a career as an Auto and Truck partsman and salesman, a career that lasted thirty-five years.
When Virgil was younger, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. As he got older, he liked to cook and soon became quite the chef. He cooked many meals for his wife, Melba and anyone else who happened to visit.
Virgil and Melba lived happily in humble, Texas until they retired and moved to Port Lavaca, Texas where they lived until Melba’s passing in 2015. After Melba’s passing, Virgil was moved to Regent Care Nursing Home in League City, Texas where he was well cared for until the end.
He is preceded in death by his wife of thirty-four years, Melba Sprague Calhoun.
Virgil is survived by two sons, Mark Calhoun and wife Susan of Kemah, Texas and Patrick Calhoun of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; two step-sons, Bobby Sprague Jr. and wife Rosie of Round Rock, Texas and John Sprague of Friendswood, Texas and, two grandchildren, Lucy Calhoun and Daniel Sprague.
