Vernon Ray Young
Vernon Ray “Chuck” Young was born in Dierks, Arkansas, on August 21, 1941. He passed away at home on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at the age of 76 in Texas City, Texas.
Chuck and his wife, Judith Busch Young, were longtime residents of Bridge City, Texas, where he taught English and coached baseball and football. In 1996, Chuck and Judy relocated to Texas City where he continued to teach and coach baseball. Chuck was inducted into the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008.
Chuck is survived by his children, Elizabeth Young McCracken and husband Todd, Deborah Young, Joe Young and wife Kimberlee; and grandchildren Erin McCracken Pittman and husband Fielding, Allyson McCracken Medart and husband Griffin, Matthew McCracken, Katie Young, Abigail Young, and Emily Young.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gladys Vanderbilt of Mena, Arkansas, and his brothers, Dewayne Algie Young and William Steve Young.
As husband, Dad, Papa, Coach, and friend, Chuck will be greatly missed. For all the times he made us laugh, made us feel special, and brought out the best in us by expecting nothing less, we are grateful and thank God for allowing us to share his life.

A visitation for Chuck will be held on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City. Visitation will begin at 6:00pm and last unitl 8:00pm. A Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 3rd, 2017 at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City. The funeral service will begin at 1:00pm followed by interment at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.
