Susan Barnard

On November 19, 2014, Susan Denise Franks Barnard passed away at home in League City, Texas at the age of 47.  She was the wife of Paul Barnard.  They shared 20 years of marriage together.

Susan was born in Bay City, Texas on November 14, 1967.  She was the daughter of Preston and Vera Franks. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.  Susan obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The College of Mount Saint Joseph in 1996 and worked as a NICU nurse at a variety of hospitals in the Houston and Clear Lake areas.  She nurtured deep friendships with other nurses as well as their families.

Susan was defined by her love of family, her deep and constant care for her boys, and her abiding friendships, which spanned from grade school to adulthood.  Like her mother, she enjoyed family, holidays, antique shopping and time devoted to those dearest to her heart.

She is predeceased by her mother Vera Head Franks.  Susan is survived by her loving husband, Paul Anthony Barnard and her sons Colin and Jackson; her father Henry Preston Franks and his wife Shirley; her brother Michael Preston Franks and his wife Patricia; her brother Steven Kendall Franks and his wife Robin; her mother in law Carol Eller; her nephews and nieces Robert, Eric, Kathleen, Emily and Michelle; and her many dear friends.

Susan fought a brave battle with lung cancer for 18 months with treatment and care in Denver, Tulsa and within medical facilities in and around Houston.  She also became a staunch advocate for lung cancer awareness and worked closely with the nonprofit group, Lungevity.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591.  Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Lungevity
