Stephen William Tanner, 65, passed away on April 23, 2013 in Houston, TX, after a long battle with cancer through which he never lost his zest for life nor his sense of humor.
He was born in Omaha, NE on March 19, 1948 to Robert and Mary Tanner. Stephen served two tours in Vietnam with the Air Force as a proud member of the 510th Fighter Squadron (The Buzzards.) After serving his country, he received his Bachelors degree from Youngstown State University and was a practicing CPA for over 30 years.
Stephen was an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution for which he served as the 3rd Color Guard Commander, held each of the four chapter offices during his tenure, and received numerous awards. He also had a love of genealogy, military history, and photography all of which he enjoyed exploring through travel.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Tanner; and brothers, Michael and David.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Tanner; brother, Scott Tanner; and daughters, Laura Abbott and husband Stephen, Melissa Bjørdal and husband Ståle, Shannon Wight and husband Scott, and Serenity Bratton and husband Joe. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Lance, Noah, Lilly, Sienna, Samara, Soraya, and Dylan
A memorial service will be held in Stephen’s honor at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX on Friday May 3rd at 10:30am.
