Stephen M. Gowan
Stephen M. Gowan was born on October 24, 1947 to Raymond L. Gowan and Marjorie Nelson in Hamburg Iowa. He passed on November 29th, 2016 in Sturgis South Dakota.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and ex-wife Deborah Lee Gowan. He is survived by his significant other Nancy Smith, daughter; Stephenie Pena and grandson, Lincoln M. Pena. Sisters; Lois (Gene) Klingsporn and Judi (Virgil) Elsberry, and Brother David (Linda) Gowan. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Utah, and many, many wonderful friends.
Steve was raised on a dairy farm in Custer, and moved around the Black Hills from Hill City to Rapid City. He graduated from Central High School in Rapid City. Soon after that he joined the Air Force and served in Europe and Vietnam. He was a munitions handler on the B-52’s.
After returning home, he settled in York, NE. There he met and married Deborah Stephenson. In 1978 their daughter Stephenie was born. They moved to Carbondale, Colorado a couple years later. Colorado is where he discovered his love for four-wheeling, he joined a jeep club there.
He loved to go “rock lickin’, riding his Harley, four wheeling’, hunting, fishing, and sitting in the garage visiting with friends. He was very lucky to have met his girlfriend Nancy a little over four years ago. She took such great care of him, and was willing to put up with his orneriness!
A “Harley” Celebration of his life will be held On Saturday December 3, 2016 from 11-3 PM, at the VFW located at 420 Main St. Rapid City SD.
He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Always remember Rule No. 1 !
