Sgt. Genaro "Ace" Alvarado

Sgt. Genaro Alvarado

Genaro Alvarado, 69, passed away Friday, December 01, 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Clear Lake. Born June 04, 1948, in Mission, Texas to Pedro and Ricarda Alvarado, Genaro attended Hitchcock High School and was drafted to the United States Army in 1968. He served honorably in the First Infantry Division known as the "Big Red One" and fought in the Vietnam Conflict from March 11, 1968 – March 10, 1970 stationed in the areas of Quan Loi, Lai Khe and An Lôc as a Sergeant in the First Engineer Battalion known as the "Diehards". He spoke often of the hardships of armed combat and strife of witnessing death on the battlefield as a Combat Engineer. Upon his return home, Genaro became a carpenter/engineer/architect through apprenticeship. He enjoyed watching sports, trying his luck at sports gambling and lottery tickets, playing the guitar, collecting coins, playing cards, and most especially listening to classic country music while enjoying a cold one…or two…or many. He was a patriot that loved his country and relished any opportunity to spend time at the VFW. He enjoyed life and lived it on his own terms.
