Serra Platt Gordon
It is with great sadness that the family of Serra Platt Gordon announces her passing on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at the age of 96. She will be remembered as a remarkable woman, wife, mother, bubbe, elter (“elbow”) bubbe, sister, aunt, and friend. We will sorely miss her quick wit, perfect delivery of jokes, and unconditional love for her family, extended family, and friends.
Serra was a vibrant woman who lived life to the fullest. She was a native Houstonian and active in the arts, especially opera. She saw operas in many opera houses around the world, but Houston Grand Opera was her favorite. She was one of the longest-standing season ticket subscribers of HGO, and actually performed in one of her favorite operas, Eugene Oñegin, on the HGO stage. She also was active in her Yiddish Vinkyl for over 30 years…it brought her a lot of joy and lifelong friendships.
Serra was preceded in death by husband, Albert Gordon, son, Sidney Ralph Gordon, and siblings Sol Platt, Izzie Platt, Esther Ralston, and Rachel Reichek. She was also preceded in death by two special men in her life– Leo Eisenberg and Paul Mayer.
Serra is survived by daughters Jacquelyn Gordon (Charles Dunham), Barbara Gordon (Kim Komer), and son, David Gordon (Wanda Martin), three grandchildren Cary Gordon (Kim), Jennifer Gutierrez (Ernesto), and Isaac Leventon (Rachel), and four great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, December 3 10:30 - 1:30 at Hotel Ylem. For more information or to attend, please send email to email@example.com.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Houston Grand Opera Endowment or Beth Yeshurun.
