He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Dolores Cuellar and brother Juan Cuellar. Sam was born in Kingsville, Texas, but lived most of his life in Galveston County. Sam met his wife Eva in 1971 and they were married for 42 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and honorably served his country for six years. Sam worked for CenterPoint Energy for over 16 years. Sam never met a stranger and was known for helping anyone he came in contact with. He was very close to his family. He enjoyed spending quality time with his kids and especially his grandkids. They were his pride and joy. Some of his favorite past times were watching football, barbecuing for the family, winning scratch offs and spending it on the grandkids. His famous quote was “Luck has nothing to do with it” and he was always winning and finally he got the Grand Prize to be with Jesus.
He will be forever missed by all of his family. May he rest in peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the communion of the angels and the saints. Memorial and tribute will be held at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City on October 1, 2013 from 5pm-8pm. The Funeral Service will be at Carnes on October 2, 2013 at 11am, with the committal service following at Hayes Grace Memorial Park.
Sam fought a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, and in his memory, those wishing to make a donation are asked to consider the Pancreatic Research Foundation (www.pancan.org). We want to thank his close friends, CenterPoint family, USW Local 13-1, and last but not least the angels from Hospice especially David and Paula.
