Salanthia A. Stevenson
Mrs. Salanthia A. Stevenson, of Houston, Texas passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Mainland Medical Center Hospital in Texas City, Texas after a lengthy illness. She was born in Weimar, Texas to Sylvester and Salina Burley. She was married to Essex Stevenson in 1935 and to this union one son, Alvin was born. After 25 years of service, she retired from the Poultry Warehouse in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Stevenson joined St Paul Methodist Church in 1950 and later South Wesley AME Church in Houston, Texas. She was a member of the Lay Ministry, the Women’s Missionary Society and the Pastor’s Aide and served her church faithfully until her health failed and she moved to La Marque to live with her son.
Mrs. Stevenson is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Essex Stevenson, whom she married in 1935; 6 brothers; 2 sisters; 2 daughters-n-law, Josie Stevenson and Ruth Stevenson. She is survived by her son, Alvin Stevenson, Sr.; grandchildren, Empress Stevenson, Alvin Stevenson, Jr., Michael Stevenson, Leona Jackson, Kim Mathis, and Tanisha Williams; devoted nephews, nieces and their families, J. Byron Burley, Quinton Johnson, Leon Johnson, Willie Stewart, L. J. Stewart, Hazel Fredericks, Margie A. Berry, Dorothy Hickman, Joyce Johnson; sister-in-law, Madlyn Burley; devoted ex-daughter-in-law, Ava Stevenson; extended family, Daryl Davis and Emma Davis; devoted special friends, Odessa Holmes, Catherine Brody, Mozella Petteway, Estelle Shipp, Yvonne Holmes and Alecia Yvette Holmes; loving and devoted caregiver, Debra Overshine; her family of the South Wesley African Methodist Episcopal Church Houston, Texas.
A Public Visitation will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10:00 AM followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM. Both services will be at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 Gulf Freeway Texas City, Texas. Burial will be in Weimar Masonic Paradise Cemetery, Weimar, Texas following the funeral services. The Reverend Hunt L. Harris, Senior Pastor of South Wesley AME Church will officiate the services.
