Ronald David Dickson
Ronald David Dickson, age 82, passed from this life on February 16, 2018 after an extended illness. He was born in McRae, Georgia to George Willis Dickson and Cleo Aline Brown Dickson on March 1, 1935. The family moved to Tifton, Georgia where Ronald began his education and graduated from Tift County High School in 1953. In 1959, Ronald received a degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech. He became a Professional Engineer eventually registered in seventeen states. He was employed by major engineering firms in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Texas, with a focus on material handling and forest products. At the 1983 TAPPI Atlanta Conference, he presented on the topic of successful pulp and paper project management. He was a lifetime member and recognized as a distinguished Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers. After retirement, Ronald practiced as a consulting engineer based in Monroe, Louisiana until ill health and a home fire caused a move to Tomball, Texas.
Ronald was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Willis Dickson and Robert Dickson; and two sisters, Betty Dickson Branch and Donna Dickson Dejban.
Ronald leaves his wife of over 60 years, Anne Harwell Dickson; sister-in-law, Linda Harwell Sloyer; a son, David Dickson and his wife Ann; a daughter, Elizabeth Dickson Goodrich and her husband Larry; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He and his wife began as “girlfriend and boyfriend” with a love that deepened as the years passed. This sweet, intelligent man will always be remembered with love and respect.
At his request, Ronald’s body was donated to the University of Texas Medical School willed body program. A memorial service will be held at the Lakewood United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas on March 9, 2018. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to a church or charity of choice.
