Robert R. Martinez, M.D.
Dr. Robert R. Martinez of Houston died in his sleep on Saturday, October 8, 2011. He was born in Kent County, Texas to Catharine and Robert Martinez on December 28, 1933. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Gregory Martin of Houston and Jeffrey Martin of Keller, and five sisters and five brothers. He was previously married to Bernice Yelich of Houston.
Dr. Martinez grew up in the community of Rotan, Texas. He graduated from Rotan High School in 1950 and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Notre Dame University with a degree from the College of Science in 1954. He graduated from The University of Texas Medical School at Galveston in 1961. His studies at medical school were interrupted by three years of service in the United States Army where he was a Surgical Technician from 1957 - 1959.
Upon graduation from medical school, Dr. Martinez had a private practice in San Angelo, Texas. He was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency for a special program in 1965. He did his urology residency at Memorial Hermann - Texas Medical Center from 1966-1970, which included three rotations through M. D. Anderson Hospital. He had a urology practice from 1970-1991 at Rosewood Hospital in Houston and later in Del Rio, Texas.
Dr. Martinez will be cremated. His ashes are to be placed in the Veterans Administration Cemetery columbarium in Houston, Texas on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 1:00 PM. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
