Richard Lee Kees
Richard “Speck” Lee Kees was born in Georgetown, LA on March 26, 1922. He passed away in Texas City on Sunday, October 23rd, 2011 at the age of 89 years. He is preceded in death by wife, Helen Crainer Kees.
Richard is survived by son, James Kees and wife Mary, of Kemah, TX; daughter, Jacklyn Garza of LaMarque; sisters Janie Vincent of Colleyville, TX and Wetona Peters of Georgetown, LA; grandchildren Kaylyn Hughes of Euless, TX; Phillip Garza and wife, Shalee of Keller, TX; Ashley McCrary and husband, Chris of Spring, TX, and Raven Kees of Fort Worth, TX; great grandchildren Peyton Garza, Parker Garza, Skylar Garza, and Kailey Hughes. He was preceded in death by his brother O’Neal Kees, and sisters Joyce Addy, Lois Greer, and Betty Ruth McClary.
“Speck” was a longtime resident of La Marque, Texas and long-standing member of First Baptist Church in Texas City, TX. He served in the U.S Coast Guard in Galveston, TX during WW II. He completed Coast Guard boot camp at the Houston Yacht Club. He was employed as a longshoreman in Galveston, a member of ILA Local 307. During his retirement, he enjoyed being a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather and his daily 3 pm coffee hour.
Pallbearers are Carlton Addy, Boyd Carr, Phillip Garza, Chris McCrary, Gary Crainer, and Mark Crainer.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the ICU and emergency room staff at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, TX.
Visitation will be held at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City on Tuesday, October 25th from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Services will follow on Wednesday, October 26th ; 10:00AM at the First Baptist Church of Texas City, 1400 9th Ave. North, Texas City, Texas 77590.
