Ricarda Alvarado

Rita Alvarado, 88, died peacefully at her home in Hitchcock, Tuesday, January 22, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. Born February 07, 1930, in Cañada Verde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, she was the third child of nine siblings. She’s affectionately known as Rica to family and friends in Mexico. She met her husband, Pedro R. Alvarado, and began her journey with him to the United States. They made their home in Hitchcock, Texas in 1955 where she lived until her death.

Rita had many hobbies. She had an amazing green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She would spend most days tending to her chickens and roosters. She had a natural instinct with animals of all sorts, owning several birds and even a raccoon. Gambling was another favorite pastime, whether it be bingo or lotteria, lottery tickets, casinos and card games, or football squares, she definitely had some good luck over the years. Probably her most favorite activity was cooking. She sold countless dozens of tamales and tortillas to family and friends. She truly had a radiant energy that infected everyone and everything she encountered.

Preceded in death by her husband Pedro R. Alvarado Sr., and her sons Pedro Alvarado Jr., and Genaro Alvarado. She is survived by her children Josephine Alvarado Soto of Hitchcock, Texas; Candido H. Alvarado and spouse, Carol K. Alvarado, of Houston, Texas; M. Irma Alvarado and spouse, J.
