Rhonda Yvette Hockless
On December 11, 1959, the Lord gifted the late Margarette and Chester Washington, with a beautiful daughter named Rhonda Yvette Washington, in New Orleans, LA.
She graduated from L.W. Higgins in 1977 and then moved to Texas where she attended Galveston Community College and received an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. A few years later, she received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch and became a registered nurse. She advanced her educational pursuits and went on to graduate from Prairie View A&M, earning a Master’s in Nursing Practice and became a Nurse Practitioner.
Shortly after moving to Texas, Rhonda met the love of her of life, Joseph Hockless. They were married in Galveston, Texas in 1985 and were blessed with 30 memorable years together. Their union produced two daughters, Alisha and Gina. Rhonda was surrounded by love, laughter, and lots of family.
Rhonda has always been a caring and compassionate person, which made it easy for her to devote her time caring for others. She worked as a registered nurse for many years where she spent the majority of her career at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Shriners Burns Hospital for Children in Galveston. Her most recent position was at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.
Rhonda departed this life on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, receiving God’s promise “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8-9).
Rhonda is survived by husband, Joseph Hockless; children, Alisha Bogan (Chauncey) and Gina Marie Hockless; granddaughter, Mia Bogan; siblings, Everett Washington (Debbie), Chester Washington Jr., Patricia Wilkerson, Gregory Washington, and Steven Washington (Ruth); aunt, Eunice Scott and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by brothers, Dennis Washington and Rodney Washington.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015, at Clear Lake Christian School, 14325 Crescent Landing Dr., Houston, TX with Pastor Cornelious Carroll of Abundant Love Christian Center providing words of comfort. Rhonda will be laid to rest at Forest Park East Cemetery. A repast will immediately follow.
