Mickey Mayes Towles

Mickey Jean Mayes Towles, passed away peacefully in San Leon, Texas on March 25, 2019 after a long battle with cancer.  Mickey, or "Pewee", as she was affectionately known was born February 29, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky.  In 1966, Mickey was crowned Miss Oldham County.  After high school, Mickey went on to attend Kentucky Wesleyan College where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. 


For 40 years, Mickey was a flight attendant with Delta Airlines. During her years with Delta, Mickey travelled the world.  Her favorite spots included Moscow, Kenya and New Zealand.  Highlights of her travel life include being present at the Great Migration in Kenya and watching a total solar eclipse in South America.  After retiring from Delta, she took a job (or in Mickey's case a hobby) at Maas Nursery.  Mickey's family, pets, the sun, beach, crafting and working in her garden were her passions. 

She is preceded in death by husband of 36 years, Leroy and parents, Robert and Jean Mayes. 

Mickey is survived by brother, Michael Mayes (Cathy); sisters, Molly Beard (Rickey) and Melinda Cook (Dennis), as well as her long-time partner, Clayton Webb.

The family will greet guests from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. with 1:00 p.m. Memorial Services to follow on April 17, 2019 at Carnes Funeral Home at 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas.
