Michael Edward Cornitius Sr.
Michael (Mike) Edward Cornitius Sr., 70, of Galveston, TX died Thursday, February 13, at UTMB surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born August 25, 1943 in Houston, the son of Charles and Sylvia (Granny) Cornitius. His family returned to Galveston in 1944 where he attended Galveston schools and lived the majority of his life.
He is preceded in life by his parents, Charles and Sylvia, and sister Rosemary Strimple. He is survived by daughter Pam Knicely and husband Steve; son Mike Cornitius Jr. and wife Mali; son Robert Cornitius and wife Tammie; daughter Brenda Hughes and husband Hershel; brother Russell Cornitius and wife Betty; sister Ann Castille; sister Jane Callahan and husband Danny; grandchildren Lacey, Josh, Zach, Paige, Frankie, Kaleb, Reagan, Haley, Lindsay, and Maya; great-grandchildren Austin, Nicky, Cole, Carson, Hunter, and Peyton; many cousins, nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. He is loved and will be missed by all who were blessed to be a part of his life.
Visitation with the family begins at 5 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City with a celebration of life following at 6 pm.
The family is eternally grateful to the staff at UTMB in 9B and 4A MICU, especially Dr. Morsy, Dr. Kumfa and Dr. Zao; nurses Lisa, Tam, Bennie and Jill; and staff members Cynthia Lancaster, Nicole Young and Suzie Mott for the care and compassion shown not only to our father, but to all our family as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the American Heart Association in Mike’s memory.
