Matthew Thomas Smith
Matthew Thomas Smith passed away on January 26, 2020, at home with family, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born on July 10, 1974 in Houston, Texas. He was baptized in the Church of Christ at the age of fifteen.
Matt attended the University of Houston, where he earned a BS degree in Computer Science. He worked for Chevron for over a decade, and during his tenure there he traveled extensively, visiting places like Canada, Russia, Angola, Mexico, Nigeria, Kenya, Australia, Argentina, and Kuwait.
Matt had a lifelong passion for learning. Even as a child, when he would become interested in a subject, he would throw himself headfirst into studying it until he became an expert. His many interests included the violin, archery, photography, firearms, and scuba diving. Matt was an expert cave diver and completed over 500 dives in various parts of the country.
His many interests allowed him to make friends with a wide range of people, and they all agree that Matt was an extremely hard worker and a fierce friend who was dedicated to always doing the right thing.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harris “Kilowatt” Smith, Sr. and Mabron Huckabee Smith, and Tom Wallace and Betty Fanning Wallace.
Matt is survived by his parents, Harris Smith, Jr. and Sarah Wallace Brown and husband Ronald Brown; brothers: William Smith, Daniel Smith and wife Andrea, and Nyzell Brown; niece Nova Anastacia Brown; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on January 31st, 2020, beginning at 4:00 pm at Carnes Funeral Home 1102 Indiana Street South Houston, TX 77587
