Matthew Rene Lopez

Matthew Lopez

Matthew Rene Lopez, 43, of Yoakum, Texas passed away in the home of his parents, with his loved ones by his side, on Thursday, October 2, 2014.  Matt was born in Texas City, TX on July 4, 1971 to Fred and Amelia Lopez.  He was a long-time resident of La Marque, attended La Marque schools and was a parishioner of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where he served his Lord, his church and his community as an alter server.

Matt was a man of many facets, a true diamond in the rough.  He was a musician, artist, taxidermist, chef, hunter, fisherman, archer, rancher, woodsman, disc jockey, herbalist, photographer and mechanic.   He was a keen observer, and an enthusiastic participant, in the world around him.   There was no limit to his curiosity and desire to learn all there is to know about the things that piqued his interest.  Given more time, he surely would have mastered so much more.  Matt lived more in 43 short years than most do given twice that time.  He lived fully, passionately and without regret.

Matt is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Mateo Lopez, paternal grandmother, Braulia Lopez, maternal grandfather Fidel Ybarra and maternal grandmother, Betty Ybarra.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica Lopez; daughter, Cierra Renee Lopez Sauceda; granddaughters Adriana De Los Santos and Aaliyah Sauceda; step-son, Tyler Moore; step-granddaughter, Laura Young; parents, Fred and Amelia Lopez; brother and sister-in-law, Roy Christopher and Stacy Schreiber Lopez; brother Michael and sister-in-law, Charlene Lopez; sister Mary Elizabeth and brother-in-law, Charlie Lira; brother, Mark and sister-in-law Angela Lopez, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and countless friends.

Matt was a man of great kindness and generosity, humor and compassion, strength and spirituality.  Though we will miss his beautiful smile, heaven will surely be brighter because he is there.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014, beginning at 5:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm in the Chapel at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 beginning at 10:00 am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1220 Cedar Drive, La Marque, Texas 77568.

Pallbearers will be Chris Lopez, Mike Lopez, Mark Lopez, Sr., Charlie Lira, Robert Lopez, Aaron Lira, Mark Lopez, Jr., Derrick Corpus and Roy Franke.  Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Vitas Hospice for their kindness and special care they gave to Matt and to all of us.

The family requests that, in lieu of floral tributes, a donation to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center be made in remembrance of Matt.

In the time of your loss, Carnes Funeral Home would like to extend our deepest condolences. It's our honor to serve your family...
