Mary Ophelia Woolverton Longoria, 107, fell asleep in death on July 7, 2016, at the Baytown Nursing & Rehab Center in Baytown, Texas.
She was born at home in the Sand Grove Community of Milam County, Texas on September 20, 1908, to Daniel C. and Katy Shepherd Woolverton. She was the fourth of eight children
In 1929 she married George Harrell Beard of Milano, Texas and moved into the Beard family red rock house on Hwy 36 at loop 344. Just in recent years she said she felt that she had moved to paradise. There were many acres of fields, a large pear orchard, a large pecan orchard, and many pastures.
They moved to Houston in March of 1943. After a divorce in 1953, she married Billy W. Longoria in 1957. They were married until his death in 1986 in Baytown, Texas. Her last years were in Baytown with her daughters and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Clarence, Oscar, J.D., and Horace; sisters Eva Jackson, Lola Connally, and Lila Hood; daughter Dorothy, Rayburn; grandchildren Denise Rayburn Collins and Damien Rayburn; and great-great- grandson Colby Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her daughter Mary E. Beard Haley and husband Harlon; grandchildren Barbara Owens and husband Gordon of Hawaii, Deborah Dittman of Baytown, Mary K. Smith of Baytown, Diana Hollowell and husband Jon of Oklahoma, David and Dan Rayburn of Baytown; step-granddaughter Stefani Perlata of Katy.
She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a great-great-great granddaughter.
She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 20, 1946, and spent the rest of her life following Jesus’ words to go and make disciples. She was a bible educator with many disciples to account on her record.
A memorial of her life will be held on August 6, 2016 at 1 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1102 Cedar Bayou Rd., Baytown, Texas, 77520.
