Mary "Pat" Coleman
At the time of her passing at Clear Lake Regional Medical Hospital in Webster, TX, on Nov. 21, 2014, Mary “Pat” Coleman passed from the loving arms of her family into the loving arms of Our Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Albert Earl "Jimmy" Fisher and niece LaShontay Jimese Lewis.
Mary Louise Coleman was born April 5, 1953 in Minden, LA to Irish Joe and Dorothy Lee (Nee Williams) Fisher. Mary adopted the name "Pat" after her great-grandmother, Mary Pat (Green) Edwards. She always stated
"We never met but my great grandmother had to be something special because the people that we got from her were wonderful and special people in their own way. We all wonder where she actually came from. She had one son and six wonderful daughters and I was so happy that she gave me my grandmother and my mother.”
From her grandmother, Essie B. "Mama" (Edwards) Williams inherited the caring for others and Pat said once that she wanted to emulate her grandmother and care for others when she could. Pat had a kind soul and said "that it was her Christian duty to help those in need". She opened her home to family, friends, and strangers in need, as well as to dozens of children she cared for in her home for over twenty years. To them she was known as "Mama Pat" and it was not uncommon to visit and see a half dozen babies crawling around or her washing and ironing their clothes. She was proud of all her kids and loved when they would visit her through their growing years after they had gone on from her care.
Mary Pat loved to cook and a visit to her home was often greeted by the smell of something wonderful cooking. She seemed to always have enough to feed a small army. It would be your own fault if you left her home hungry. Pat would ensure you left with a container for later or would bring something to you if you were sick. She always seemed content and happy to share her home with friends and family listening to them enjoying her warmth and hospitality. A physical emptiness remains for those that knew her, but their hearts are filled with her loving and kind spirit.
She leaves on this earthly realm her husband of 33 years, David Lee Coleman; daughters, Kimberly Breckenridge and Alexis Coleman; step-daughter, Tomeka Coleman; a special aunt, Mary Lee “Aunt Sugar” Williams and numerous family and friends who will miss her dearly.
