Martha Herrera Otero
Martha Herrera Otero, 85, of Dickinson, Texas passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, at Regency Care Center due to complications associated with rheumatoid arthritis and anemia.
Martha was born in the small town of Kenedy, Texas to Anecita Varrentes and Camilo Herrera on September 9, 1925. She was the youngest and last survivor of 21 siblings. In her younger years she loved to dance and cook and make quilts with her sister. She was very family oriented and loved them all. She spent most of her life in the Galveston, Texas area and has family members all over Texas and throughout the US.
Martha's schooling education was minimal but her life lessons were enormous.
Preceding Martha in death are her parents and all of her siblings. Survivors include her only child, son, Silvano Otero Jr. and his wife Millou; grandchildren, Mark Pelaez, Martha Christina Santibanez and Stephanie Marie Otero; grandchildren, Hilrey, Mariah, Fernando, Jordan, Angelita, Aaliyah, Jazzmin, Ycela, Darian, Farrah; brother-in-law Santiago Otero; nieces and nephews, Elouisa and Don Walker and family, Sylvia Cooke Greer and her husband Bill Greer and family, Angelina and Juan Huarez and family, Michael and Delia Herrera and family, Joseph and Linda Herrera and family, Lucy Drossos and Mario Florez and family, all of the Drossos family, Francise Herrera, Danny Herrera and family, Annie Herrera and family, Camilo Herrera and family, Wally Herrera, all of the rest of the Herrera family, there are so many of you, the Vallientes family, and the Alvarado family, Mary and Jesse Villanueva and family, and any other family members and friends.
May she rest in peace in the arms of our Lord.
Services will be held at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX, on Monday, February 7, 2011. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The memorial service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
After the services on Monday, Martha’s body will be transported to Kenedy, Texas for a small service on Wednesday, at Echol Funeral Home and burial at the Sacred Heart Cemetery there.
