Mariella Hawley, “Aunt Mariella” or “Mary” to most, 72 years of age, died Friday, May 24, 2019. She was born Mariella Taylor “Jr.” in Jacksonville, Texas on July 9, 1946 to Mariella Covington Taylor and Hugh Isaac Taylor. She was the fifth child of seven and always had fond memories of growing up with all her siblings.
She married Dennis Ray Braswell with whom she had her two daughters, Tammi Ann “Tab” Braswell Lloyd and Shanda Lee Braswell. Her second husband, Lee Roy Hawley precedes her in death. With the births of her grandsons Mike, Chance, CW and Coeby, Mamma’s blessings had truly arrived.
Mariella is also preceded in death by her sister, Dennise Gootee, and her brothers Ike Taylor, Richard Taylor and Tim Taylor. Survivors include daughter Tab Lloyd and husband Stuart Lloyd of Nolanville; daughter Shanda Braswell of Tomball; grandsons Michael Wayne Lloyd II and wife Lisa, Hugh Chance Braswell, Connor Wayne Lloyd and Coeby Mason Braswell; brothers Mike Taylor of the Woodlands and Reverend Stephen Taylor of Aberdeen, Scotland.
Mariella is most often remembered as a caring woman who always had a gift for working in service to others, especially the elderly. Her example lives on in that both daughters have chosen service-oriented careers working with youth. Mariella was always so proud of her sister Dennise, who was a nurse, so she chose to donate her body to science research to help others learn in Dennise’s memory.
With a smile on her face up until the last moments, she often reminded us that “Life is too short. Eat dessert first.” At any opportunity to do so, that’s exactly what she did.
A come-and-go memorial is scheduled for June 30 in Pinehurst, Texas. Contact the family at firstname.lastname@example.org interested.
