Marianna Vincenti Carmichael, 1923 – 2017 of Sugar Land, Texas, age 93, passed away on Thursday the 20th of July with her family by her side. Marianna was born in the Bronx, New York, the third of seven children. Marianna was preceded in death by her father Salvatore Vincenti and mother Jacomina Shibona Vincenti; also her brothers Frank Vincenti, Vincent Vincenti, Joseph Vincenti, Dominick Vincenti, and John Vincenti. She was also preceded in death by her two husbands William Riggs and Rex Carmichael as well as her son Lawrence Riggs. She is survived by her daughter Marian Hoffman and son-in-law Steven Hoffman; grandchildren David and Gretchen Hoffman, Douglas Hoffman, and Crystal Hoffman; great grandchildren Dean Hoffman and Dalton Hoffman as well as her sister Angie Parker and many nieces and nephews. Marianna’s roots came from Sicily and she always let everyone know that she was Italian. She loved to travel and made it back to reconnect with family in Sicily many times. Her passions were music, painting and embroidery. She looked forward to going the Houston Embroiderers’ Guild meetings with her daughter every month. In recent years, she traveled to Alaska, Australia, and China. She went on many family vacations and numerous stitching retreats with her friends at HEG. Marianna worked in the family insurance agency until her retirement on January 1, 2017. She loved being with people and enjoyed her days with the office staff (as they have said many times she did the work no one wanted to do). If there is one thing everyone said about Marianna, it was “I want to be just like her as I get older”. Many people never knew her name, they just knew her as Nonnie (Italian for grandmother). Pallbearers will be Dominick Vincenti, Mark Vincenti, John Parker, Vincent Parker, Tony Vincenti, Matthew Hune, and Vince Foster. Services will be Friday the 28th of July at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas at 11AM with internment to follow. The family is requesting to please wear red (her favorite color).
