Manuel Guajardo Jr.

Manuel Guajardo Jr, 80, went to be with the Lord Wednesday June 22, 2016 surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born on July 1, 1935 in Brownsville, Texas to Manuel and Lucia Guajardo. He was known for his long history of civic involvement in the Texas City Independent School District, the city of Texas City and Galveston County. He served on the Texas City ISD School Board of Trustees for 25 years, serving as Vice President and President multiple times and represented the Region 4 education service area on the Texas Association of School Boards for 14 years. He was also known for his loving heart, keen sense of humor and love for his family.

He met the love of his life, Mary Garza Guajardo, in Palacios, Texas in 1953. They raised both of their children and spent their early years there where he worked to provide for his family. In 1962, they moved to Texas City where they would spend the rest of their 60 years together.

Manuel had a strong work ethic and desire to make productive citizens of young adults, especially for minorities. His life resume speaks for its self. He never met a stranger and helped anyone who was in need.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; siblings, Guadalupe Guajardo, Paula Guajardo, Maria Garza, Ramona Pena, Dolores Santos, Sofia Vela and Frances Pena.

Manuel leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Garza Guajardo; his children, James Guajardo (Terri) and Elizabeth de La Garza (Lorenzo); grandchildren, Aydrien Robinson (Cheyenne), Lorenzo Manuel de La Garza (Rosanna), James Guajardo II (Morgan), Loren de La Garza (Brandee) and Jennifer de La Garza and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Hope Denny (Jerry), Magdalena Gonzalez, Lucy Valdez and various nieces and nephews.  

A visitation will be held at Texas City High School Auditorium Friday, June 24th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.  A Life Celebration Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, June 25th, at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City.
