Linda Carrol Scherer

Linda Scherer

Linda Carrol Kleiner Thiel Scherer, 67, passed away at her residence on July 23rd 2015 after a short battle with cancer.

Linda was born October 5th 1947 to R.W. Kleiner and Ermon Alberta Mcginty Colbaugh in Eastland, Texas.  She attended high school in Billings, Montana and went on to complete courses towards Nursing.  Later in life, Linda became a 911 dispatcher. While residing in Billings she met and married, Delmar Thiel on January 6th 1965 where they were gifted with their first beautiful child, Wendy Gay.   Later they moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where they were blessed with two more amazing children, Jeffrey Scott and Troy Bradley.  In 1977 Linda and her first husband moved to Lewistown, Montana where they opened and ran a family restaurant.

In 1979, Linda moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where she met and married Air Force Tech Sergeant Roy O. Scherer III. They fell in love and married October 18th 1980. Roy had one child, John Raymond, which Linda loved and raised as her own.  On September 25th 1981 Roy and Linda lovingly brought their child, Donald Paul into this world.

In 1983, her husband Roy was transferred to Germany where they lived for six years. Linda and Roy returned to South Dakota in 1990 where she continued to raise her children. In 2002, she took on a role as a 911 dispatcher in Custer County South Dakota until 2012.  In this same year her husband, Roy fell ill.   With Roy, Linda left her home she loved in Custer, South Dakota and moved to Dickinson, Texas where she could be closer to her family and seek medical care for her husband.

Linda was a dreamer.  She envisioned, created, and was president of the spouses’ club for our military men and women at Ramstein, Germany.  Her zest for life led her to volunteer at the local YMCA in Custer where she was an enthusiastic coach for her son’s soccer team.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy; son, Jeff; mother and father, a brother and two sisters.

She is survived by four children, daughter, Wendy and son-in-Law Keith McGregor, son, Troy and Daughter-in-Law Diane Thiel, son, John Scherer, son, Donald and Daughter-in-Law Devan Scherer; two sisters, Joanna, and Niana; three brothers, Bill, John, and Kelly; nine grand kids, and three great-grand kids.

This world has lost a beautiful wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, a woman who had a place at her table for everyone.  A woman who did not know a stranger, but always saw a possibility to share stories and coffee with everyone she met.  Her gracious hospitality will be missed, but the lessons learned from this amazing person on how to be a friend to anyone will be carried on.  Heaven has gained another angel.
