It is with great sadness that the relatives of Lawrence Tracy Newman announce his passing on January 18, 2018, at the age of 75. Larry will be remembered as a loving member of the family who was always available and willing to help.

Lawrence Tracy Newman was born at St. Joseph’s Maternity in Houston, Texas on January 13, 1943. Larry moved to Chicago, Illinois at a young age before returning back to his hometown of Houston.

Larry attended the University of Houston and received a Law Degree from South Texas School of Law in 1969. Larry practiced law in both Harris and Fort Bend Counties, and even spent some time as a Harris County Sheriff.

He had many diverse interests. He studied photography in High School, which became a passion that lasted his entire life. He took incredible photos of the University of Houston mascot, Shasta the Cougar, which ignited his interest in animals. Larry became a lifetime parade committeeman at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and spent many hours volunteering as an usher for the Houston Grand Opera.  He held a lifelong love of travel, particularly cruises, which led him to become a travel agent in his spare time. And, he enjoyed reading, escaping into the worlds of Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Henry Newman, mother, Rose Newman nee Lasky, Aunt Lillyan Newman of Chicago, Ill, his beloved sister Ellin Gordon nee Newman and her husband, Sidney Gordon, and is survived by his nephew Cary Gordon and his wife Kim, his dear friends Susie Stern of Richmond, TX and John Harris of Houston, TX, and many cousins and family members.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday April 8, 2018 from 1 – 3 pm at the home of cousin Jennifer Fireman Santoscoy. Please view the evite at for more details.
