Juan Zapata passed away on March 1, 2018. He was born in Mission, Texas and raised in McAllen, Texas. For years, he and his family would migrate to Rupert, Idaho for work before he settled in El Campo, Texas where he worked as a farmer right up until he became unable to get around. He loved being out in the open fields from sun up to sun down, fertilizing and prepping the soil for planting season. Every harvest, he was proud of his accomplishments, knowing his small part would benefit thousands of people.
Juan was a kind, humble and generous man who always had a way of looking on the brighter side of things. Even with no formal education, he was a "Jack of all trades" and could build and weld just about anything. He enjoyed the outdoors with fishing, hunting and camping at the top of his list but he especially liked gardening and had the greenest thumb. He will be missed by all who knew him well.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-laws Rachel Z. Avinger (Marty), Belinda Zapata (Paul), his son, Jesse Zapata and grandsons, Christian Benavidez, Lorenzo Goins and Vincent E. Zapata.as well as the mother of his daughters, Rose M. Zapata & his siblings: Santiago Zapata, Pablo Zapata, Francisca Zapata, Carmela Zapata, Maria Pena, Rafael Zapata and Sandra Contreras.
