Joyce Magee Jones Mitchell

Joyce Mitchell
Joyce Magee Jones Mitchell passed away on May 22, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in Houston, Texas after a lengthy illness. Her two children were by her side as she passed peacefully from this world. As per her wishes, her body was donated to science and her ashes will be scattered by her children and granddaughter Stormy, in Portland, Oregon at the International Rose Test Garden across from the Japanese Botanical Gardens; a place Stormy visits weekly and always wanted her Mamaw to see.
Joyce was born on November 15, 1932 in San Saba Texas, daughter of Virgil Magee and Bessie Grumbles Magee. She attended San Saba High School and on June 9th, 1950 she married Edgar Jones Jr.  After Edgar's passing in December of 1998, she married David Mitchell in 2004.  She is preceded in death by Edgar, her parents, her brother Robert, and her second husband, David.
Joyce is survived by her two children, Forrest Dale Jones of Leakey, Texas and Tanya Jones Fleming of Bastrop, Texas; five grandchildren, Allison Fisher of Sugarland, Adam Briscoe of New York City, Stormy Hileman of Portland, Oregon, Eryck Wynn Jones and Tayla Winters of Cleveland, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Katherine Grace Fisher, Jack William Fisher, Luke Ryan Fisher, Hadlee Goldsberry and Zayden Goldsberry, a nephew, Robert Magee of Mesquite, Texas and two beloved cousins, Velma Poe and Sharon Ellis of San Saba.
Joyce lived many places in her lifetime, moving to the Rio Grande Valley with Edgar and their two young children and living in various places across South Texas. In 1960 she undertook the grand adventure of moving her family to Kuwait for two years before returning to San Saba and then Karnes City. In 1965 the family moved to Portland, Texas where she was active in her church and was a beloved Sunday School teacher. In 1972 the family moved to Ingleside on the Bay where they resided before she and Edgar completed the cycle by returning to San Saba. In 2014 she moved to Brookdale Assisted Living in Houston due to failing health and to be closer to her great-grandchildren who were the light in her eyes.
Joyce made friends wherever she went and the life of everyone she met was enriched.  She will be sorely missed and always remembered for her kind acts and selfless nature.
A Celebration of Joyce's graduation from her life on earth will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018.  It will be held at her last place of residency where she made lasting friendships with caregivers as well as residents.  Brookdale Senior Living in Houston is located at 2835 Shadowbriar Drive, Bldg. 4, Houston, Texas 77077.  Please, in lieu of flowers, Joyce would be honored for donations to be made to Guardian Gals Animal Rescue in Corpus Christi, Texas. There was no greater love than hers for our 4 legged friends.
