Joyce Lee Patterson
Memories are etched in the minds of all who know and love Joyce Lee Johnson Patterson. Her life’s chapters are multidimensional and rich…Joyce was a gift that was given to Reverend Ruben and Eldora Johnson on April 24, 1934 in Goodrich, Texas. She was blessed to have Christian parents, therefore her early spiritual journey was nourished as she accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour and was baptized at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Hitchcock. She was educated in the public school system, graduating from Central High School Class of 1951.
In 1956 seeking a better life she moved to San Francisco, with her sister friend, Dr. Sodonia M. Wilson. Keeping with her church covenant she united with Third Baptist Church in San Francisco. She loved living in San Francisco and often times you could hear her saying “Thank You Lord for bringing me to this air condition city”. She attended college and received an X-Ray Technician Certificate. She found employment in San Francisco’s Finance District as a Proof Reader. Later she began her diligent career with the United States Postal Service and this career would span until her retirement.
Joyce delighted in being a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She nurtured and loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with her family. Watching sports (basketball and football) on TV and working sudoku puzzles. But even in the joy she found in fulfilling all her family roles, she was equally as passionate about being a member at New Beginning Baptist Church under the divine Spiritual leadership of Pastor Malcolm Dotson, Sr.
Joyce knew the power of prayer, although facing health challenges, she remained steadfast and unmovable with her commitment to Christ. We all prayed that God would heal her on this side, yet on July 31, 2018, God granted her total healing as He called her unto to Himself.
Waiting in heaven to greet her as she made her arrival were those who had an integral role in her life, her parents, Reverend Ruben and Eldora Johnson; her maternal and paternal grandparents; brother, Ruben Johnson, Jr.; children, Roy Williams and Joanna Harris and grandson, Sean Williams.
Although she will be profoundly missed, she leaves in God’s care; loving and devoted daughter, Elaine Williams, grandchildren, Dalonda “Sharita” Harris, Patrice Nicole Williams; son in law, Kevin Harris; nephew, Michael Harris; sister and lifelong best friend, Dr. Sodonia M. Wilson; special nephew, Demetrius Wilson; a special cousin that she loved like a son, Warren Johnson; special cousins, Vera Johnson, Mary Louise Johnson, Irene Simpson and Clyde Lewis; a host of other cousins and friends.
There will be a public visitation on August 8, 2018 at New Beginnings Church in League City at 9am with a service at 11am and a burial to follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.
