Joseph Arthur Sharp, Jr.
Joseph Arthur Sharp, Jr., 64, passed from this life at home in Manvel, TX on August 15, 2016. Born May 13, 1952 in Tulsa, OK, Joe grew up playing baseball, participating in Boy Scouts, hunting, fishing, exploring his world. After graduating from Thomas A. Edison High School, Tulsa, in 1971 and attending Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Joe took a job with a geophysical company and moved to Alaska, working on the North Slope for several years. He returned home and attended Spartan School of Aeronautics. Upon completion he went to work for Bell Helicopter, servicing craft providing support to the oil and gas industry in southern Louisiana. He took his skill set to the Houston Police Department servicing their aircraft before joining Continental Airlines in 1986 who then merged with United. He was with them for 30 years prior to his death.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Sharp, Sr. and Barbara Kidd Sharp both of Tulsa, OK. He is survived by two sisters, Katherine (Sharp) Pickup and Mary (Sharp) Johnson and her husband, Peter, of Estes Park, CO, and a brother, John Stephen Sharp of Tulsa. In addition he leaves a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and an aunt, Laura Kidd of Centennial, CO.
Joe’s passing is cause for sorrow for many friends and coworkers who valued his friendship and appreciated his giving nature. The family is particularly indebted to Joe’s close friend, Gerald Shear, for his support and unconditional friendship.
As nephew, Jeff Johnson, posted upon hearing of Joe’s passing, “Just hitting me that my Uncle Joe has passed. He was a good man. A lone wolf with a huge heart. He wasn’t always understood but you never doubted how much he cared about friends and family. He will be missed.”
A memorial Service for Joe will be held on Saturday August 27, 2016 at 2P.M. at Carnes Funeral Home. 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591
