Jose Enrique Villarreal

Jose Villarreal

Jose Enrique (Sonny) Villarreal, 65 went to be with the Lord on September 14, 2016.  He was born in Raymondville, Texas on October 31, 1950 to Enrique and Margarita Posas Villarreal.  He resided in Texas City for 61 years.

Sonny was a 1970 graduate of Texas City High School where he excelled in baseball and football, being named to the all district teams every year.  He attended Ranger Junior College on a football scholarship.

His love for sports continued. He was blessed with two sons, Steven and Jeffrey who took after their dad as great athletes.  Sonny proudly coached them from Pee Wee to Pony Colt.  He was so proud when they always made all star teams.  He mentored and coached so many boys who to this day call him “Coach”!  They say he was stern, but gave them praise and taught them good team ethics.

Sonny was a lifetime Dallas Cowboy fan.  Win or lose, he stayed true to his team.  He loved playing golf and played as often as he could.  His weekly senior scramble and playing rounds with his sons were his favorite hobbies.

Sonny was very proud of his family.  He is survived by the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Pam Villarreal, two sons, Jeffrey Villarreal of Texas City and Steven Villarreal (Jennifer) of League City, and his beloved grandchildren James Cameron, Victoria and Aidan Villarreal and Jaxton Glancy.

Sonny was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista of Hitchcock where he attended alongside his brothers and sisters, Manuel, Jesse, David and Sam Villarreal, Margaret Suarez, Linda Hernandez and Gloria Diaz.  Sonny was blessed to grow up in a family who loved the Lord and lived life to serve Him.
