John William Samford
John William Samford “Bill” was born in Amex, California on April 17th, 1939. He passed away on July 30th, 2016.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalie Samford, daughter, Amy Luciani and son, Joel Samford.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Samford; children, Ray Samford of California, Andrew Samford of Virginia, Sandra Kennedy of New York, Sue Rowbotham of Florida, Christi Visneski of New York, Mary Green of Florida, and Jesse Samford of Texas; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Bill retired from the Navy after twenty years of service on June 23, 1978. His last assignment was being on board the USS Andrew Jackson. He also retired from the City of Austin. He traveled the world and has worked hard his whole life.
Bill enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, crabbing, flying kites, playing games and laughing. Bill was a long time resident of Santa Fe, Texas. He had a fun loving spirit and until he became too ill, was an active member of Arcadia First Baptist Church. To his friends and neighbors, he was known as a caring and giving man with a good sense of humor always willing to lend a hand. To his family, he was respected and looked up to as an example of how to love God and conduct life with integrity and honesty. He made us all feel individually and collectively loved and accepted. He was our rock and will be greatly missed.
Guests are invited to share in a Celebration of Life Visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., with 11:00 a.m. Funeral Services on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Arcadia First Baptist Church of Santa Fe, 14828 Hwy. 6, Santa Fe, Texas 77517. Interment will be 11:15am Tuesday at the Houston National Cemetery. Honors will be provided by the United States Navy.
