John Lawrence Tabor

John Tabor

John was born on December 3rd, 1942 to Rex and Irene Tabor.

Raised with his Mother’s adventurous spirit – his early childhood included 14 schools across two states and two foreign countries in seven years – even living on the Osage Indian Reservation in OK. Finally settling in Seabrook, TX., John graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1961.

A man with vastly diverse interests he was into fast cars, NASCAR racing, riding bicycles, sailing, trains, increasing his computer knowledge, and especially traveling in his RV and reading. John was the Fire Brigade Captain at Total Chemical plant for many years. Texas A & M University invited John to teach at their Fire School which he enjoyed immensely for several years. John also spent time with the Galveston County volunteer CERT association.

He loved traveling to Dallas to visit with his only sibling, an older brother – Jerry Mayhue (deceased) and his nephews Jeff and Mike. Best of all his loves was his wife of 34 years – Dorothy (Dee) Marie Tabor who was truly his soul mate. Being friends since Dee was 15, his happiest moments were traveling in their RV or simply being together holding hands watching movies or quietly reading.

John was a truly loving and giving individual who never hesitated to help others – known to his friends as “the fixer”. John’s life always included pets including his beloved parrot Chico and a variety of cats. Jackson, a stray cat came into his life about 4 years ago, was his constant companion.

John fought a long courageous battle against cancer and passed very peacefully at home with his beloved    Dee by his side early in the morning of February 17, 2015. He will be greatly missed by his many friends.  He is survived by daughter, Gwendolyn Tabor and grandson, Rex Tabor of N Richland Hills, TX.  He is also survived by daughter, Andrea Tabor of Austin, TX. and by step-son Thomas Draper, daughter in law Kimberly Draper and grandson, Kirby Draper all of Cypress, TX.
