John Harvey Rhoads
On February 27, 1954 John Harvey Rhoads was born to Willie B. and Mamie Rhoads. John passed away May 31, 2013 in Texas City, Texas.
John gave his life to Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. J. D. Williams at New Hope Baptist Church. He received his education from Groveton Public Schools and graduated in 1972. John joined the United States Army where he served four years and received an Honorable Discharge. He relocated to Galveston where he worked various construction jobs and currently worked as a longshoreman for ILA Local #20.
John had a never ending love for his family and he never failed to show it. Whether it was nicknaming the nieces and nephews, spoiling his sisters or providing support, he demonstrated his love. John was an avid Steelers Fan, loved music, dominoes and family time.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willie B. and Mamie Rhoads,his sister Jo Nell Bailey, and his nieces Xranda Rhoads and LaTasha Norman.
John leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Brenda Davis Rhoads, Siblings; Vernon Horace (Marcell), Herman Norman (Thena), Faye Dixon, Florene Rhoads, Janie Lee (Curtis), Katie Rhoads, Essie Faggett (David), Debra Worthen (Darrell), and Janis Hartsfield (Danny), Aunts; Eulalia Tukes, Victoria Williams, Jewel Rhoads, Etta Mae Horace, Pearlie Compton, and Elizabeth Horace, Mother-in-law, Lorenza Davis, Step-Children; Jessie Dewayne Davis, and Arnold Lee Davis (Cherish), Brothers and Sisters- In Law, Ernest (Rhonda), Helen Davis, Lacrease Jackson, Odessa Robinson Myron, John (Veronica), Jessie and Shelly Davis, Grandchildren; Quincy, Malik, Aubrenae, Kaori, Arniya, Ariell, and Kourtney, Special Children; Floyd, Tarhonda, and Marcus Douglas, and a host of relatives and Friends.
The family will receive guest for a wake service Friday June 7, 2013 from 5PM until 9PM at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX. 77591. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be at at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 2917 Sealy, Galveston, TX. 77591, Rev. Louis Simpson, Jr. will officiate the ceremony. A burial service will follow immediately at the Lacy Community Cemetery, in Lacy, Texas.
