Joce Nel Crook-Worley

Joce Crook-Worley

Joce Nel Crook-Worley passed away on October 3, 2014, surrounded by family and loved ones.  She loved to laugh, and had a wonderful sense of humor.  Her family and friends miss her loving care, and ready smile.  In her last days, her favorite activity was holding hands with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  The hands in the photo are those of Joce and her granddaughter Hattie Copeland on October 2, 2014.

Joce was born in Amarillo, Texas on December 15, 1931.  She moved to Houston, Texas in 1955, where she made her home for the remainder of her life.  She especially enjoyed rainy days, especially the sound of rain on the roof.

She leaves three children: Carolyn Furnish, Charles Cross, and Charlotte Crook; four grandchildren: Hattie Copeland, Allison Fraser, Charles Jr. Cross, and Jocie Holmstrom (Joce’s namesake); as well as eight great grandchildren.

For eighteen years, Joce held the office of Harris County Deputy Constable.

In her later years, she served as a loving and steadfast caregiver for her husband.

She also had many beloved pets throughout her life, most notably, her Pomeranian dogs and Siamese cats; many were rescue animals. In her youth, she loved to care for and ride horses.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Rose of Texas Hospice, whose staff gave excellent care to both Joce, and her grieving family.  Donations are also welcome to the Houston Area Women's Center, or the Houston ASPCA.
