Herbert "Herbie" Townsend
Herbert “Herbie” Townsend, 90, went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2016 at home surrounded by his loved ones after a one day acute illness. Herbie was born March 3, 1926 in Galveston, Texas to Ed and Sadie Townsend. He was a resident of Texas City for many years, employed at Monsanto from 1946 until his retirement in 1983, getting to spend all his time with his grandkids as they were growing up, enjoying his multiple woodworking projects and helping anyone in need.
He served our country in the United States Air Force in the Korean Conflict as well as WWII. He was an active member of Paul’s Union Church for over 65 years. He attended the Nessler Center Senior Program for many years where he made many friends, and we thank everyone in the Senior Program for their love and concern of Herbie, particularly Daisy and Billie.
Herbert is preceded in death by wife, Peggy of 58 years, a sister (Sade) and two brothers (Charles and TJ).
He is survived by caregiver and son, Duane Townsend; daughter, Vicki Morse and husband Bubba; grandkids, Amber Baker and husband Jason, Crystal Guida and husband Paul, Justin Morse and wife Jamie, and 7 great-grand kids, three nieces and two nephews.
He will be cremated with a Memorial Service on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Paul’s Union Church. His ashes will be entombed at the Veterans National Cemetery in Houston, TX.
