Henderson Hygh Jr., 76, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2018 at Mainland Hospital in Texas City, Texas.  He was born on January 3, 1942 in Karnack, Texas to Henderson Hygh, Sr. and Etwill (Red) Hynson Woods.

He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Karnack and attended Texas Southern University before he decided to enlist in the United States Army where he served 3 years.  

Henderson, otherwise known as “Joe”, was a man who loved life and most of all, his family.  He was proud to be a father of his daughters, Vernetta and Heather.  He enjoyed working on cars, being the life of the party, telling old stories, and spending time with his friends and family.  He was a very generous and kind-hearted man.

Henderson was preceded in death by his father, Henderson Hygh Sr., mother, Etwill (Red) Woods, grandparents, Alonzo and Valerie Hynson, and most recently, his great-nephew, Devin Colbert, and many other relatives.

Joe’s memory is cherished by the family he left behind: children,Vernetta and Heather Hygh; great aunt,  Mable Williams; sister Barbara (Ben) Colbert; grandchildren, Collin Hygh, Layla Evans, Lacey Evans and Ty Evans,  a host of nieces and nephews: Latissue Colbert, Bennie Colbert, Andre Colbert, Omar Colbert, Carlos Colbert, Shante Colbert, Sherie Colbert, Shamiko Colber, Demiko Colbert, Erin Colbert, Ashley Colbert, Avery Colbert, Shannon Colbert; great nieces and nephews:  Lorraine Knoxson, Jaquelle Oates, Chancellor Colbert, Taylor Colbert, Kylee Colbert, Kennedy Colbert; aunts and uncles: Cutee Tarrant, Murtis Durham, Gladys Marie Conner, Willie Ruth (Wendell) Pace, and a host of cousins, relatives, dear friends and classmates.

Services will be held at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway in Texas City, Texas at 12:00 p.m. The viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Houston Nationa Cemetery  Houston, Texas.
