Helen Josephine Little
Helen Josephine Little, 87, died on Monday, August 27, 2012, at Methodist Hospital, West Houston. A resident of Columbus, Texas, Helen was born on May 30, 1925, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Ethel Streeter Sampica and Leonard John Sampica. The family relocated to LaCrosse, WI, where Helen spent her childhood years during the Great Depression. In 1938, the family moved to Burlington, IA. She married Chalmer Glen (Buck) Little in June, 1944, in Burlington, IA; he died in 1969. She was the owner of Central Printing Company in Burlington, IA, which she founded in 1961. In 1985, she sold her business and retired; a short time later she moved to Katy, TX, in order to live close to her family. She moved to Columbus, Texas in 1995, where she enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, writing poetry, raising Yorkshire Terriers and spending time with her large family.
Helen is survived by one daughter, Judith Little Zachmeyer (David), six grandchildren: Lora Thye, Columbus, TX, Brian Thye, Wapello, IA, Kristopher Zachmeyer, Galveston, TX, Charles Zachmeyer, Fairfield, CA, Lori Quillan, Katy, TX and Margaret Zachmeyer, Lincoln, NE, brother, Cliff Erickson, Des Moines, IA, 13 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, four nephews, one niece and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Juanita Mennen.
At the request of the deceased, no funeral or memorial service was held. Her body has been donated to Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas as she requested.
Into the past I’ll travel today,
