Gwendolyn Elaine Warren
Gwendolyn Elaine Warren departed this Life on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 2:23AM. Gwen was born to Pinky Hollis Warren and the late Dennis Scott on August 2, 1953 in Galveston, Texas. She was baptized and grew into adulthood in Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church under Rev. J.H. Scott where she was active in several ministries and sang in the choir. She later attended Abundant Life Christian Center with Pastor Walter Hallam where she graduated from Evangelical School and continued to sing in the choir. In 2005, she became an active member of Word of Restoration Church, Dr. Charles E. Perry, Jr. Pastor where she continued to serve until her passing.
Gwen received her formal education through the Texas City Independent School District graduating from Texas City High School in 1971. After graduation, she attended Galveston College, where she obtained an Associate Degree in Nursing and after successfully passing the Texas Board of Nurses Exam became a Registered Nurse. In 1974, Gwen quickly found a passion working closely with patients as a Renal Dialysis nurse at UTMB. She was soon recruited by National Medical Care, Inc., owner of Island Dialysis Center as a Charge Nurse and Hemodialysis Nurse Trainer, transferring within the company from Galveston to Anaheim, CA and Phoenix, AZ before returning back to Texas. She was also a Charge Nurse at Davita for over 20 years eventually securing her recent position at Fresenius Medical Care as a Patient Educator from 2002 until her death.
Gwen loved God, her family and her calling as a compassionate Nursing professional. She was rooted in God's Word and used the Word to nurture her only child. She shared her love for God with everyone including her patients. She had a passion for singing, reading and traveling to new destinations every year with friends or family. Her most treasured trip was to Hawaii after her daughter's graduation from Texas Southern University in 2006. Her companions for the trip were Bree, her mom and
youngest brother, Kevin.
She enjoyed travel so much even her illness could not deter her desire to see the world. At the time of her passing, she was scheduled to depart June 23 for Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard but God chose to take her on His Heavenly journey. Additionally, Gwen performed briefly with a local female gospel group called the Gospelettes in the TC-LM area. The eight-member group also included two of her sisters, Janice and her late sister Carolyn. The group opened at various area churches for the popular local gospel group, the Voices of the Mainland.
Gwen is preceded in death by father, Dennis Scott; beloved sister, Carolyn Warren Sherwood; nephew, Antoninus Alexander; maternal grandmother, Ophelia Hollis; and two maternal aunts, Everlina Hollis Lightsey and Katherine Hollis Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted only child, Shebryl Warren-Shankle of La Marque; mother, Mrs. Pinky Hollis Warren of Texas City; sisters, Janice Warren Holbert of Texas City, Sandra Warren Crawford (Elbert) of Houston, Patricia Warren Ferguson (Michael) of Fresno; brothers, Darrell Warren of Houston and Kevin Warren of San Diego, CA as well as a host of Scott siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and her most devoted girlfriends, Doris Sue Moseley, Vashti Williams and Judy Steele.
