Gertrude Mildred Martha Krenz Stager entered her eternal home on Sunday, February 8, 2015.  She was welcomed home by her parents, Selma & Leo Krenz, Sr., brothers, Richard, Leo & Ernie Krenz, Great-Grandson, Nehemiah Stager,  sisters-in-law, Marjie Smith, Floretta Krenz, Nadine Stager, Ruth Brown, Wynne Conner & Lois Krenz, brothers-in-law, J.R. Whicker, Don Stager, Jack Brown, Albert Conner & R.E. Smith.

She was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma on October 23, 1925.  She was raised on a dairy farm with her parents in Northeastern Oklahoma!  Gertrude was the oldest of 11 children (7 girls & 4 boys).  Her parents were German immigrants and she could only speak German until she attended school and learned to speak English; she then taught English to her parents.

She attended public school and Lutheran school and graduated from Lenapah, Oklahoma in 1944.  She worked at Sherwin Williams paint factory in Coffeyville, Kansas.  She also worked and lived in Kansas City, Missouri.  She married the love of her life Robert Lee Stager on October 23, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galveston, TX.

She resided in Galveston County with her husband of 66 years.  They lived in various homes that Robert built located in Clear Lake Shores, Texas City, Hitchcock, and LaMarque, where they raised their five children.

She was employed in various office positions at Union Carbide, Trinity Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Church and finished her working career at College of the Mainland.  She was a member of American Business Women’s  Association.

Gertrude became a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Texas City, TX, a year after the church’s establishment in 1949 until the present time.  She also attended Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hitchcock, Texas.  She was director of Peace Lutheran Braille Workshop for 20+ years and worked in the Braille center for 40+ years.  She was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, taught Sunday School, directed children’s choir and participated in “Journey to Bethlehem”.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Robert Stager.  Her children:  Carol & (Jerry) Casper of Texas City, James & (Deborah) Stager of Lumberton, TX, Sandra & (Bob) Johnson of Deer Park, TX, Elizabeth & (Marty) Eaton of Fort Mohave, Arizona, Karl Stager & Sudie Kelso of Texas City. Grandchildren:  Phil & (Janice) Stager, of Beaumont, TX, Jeremy & (Renee) Casper of Hallsville,TX, Jennifer Casper & Scott Watson of Longview, TX, Andy & (Amber) Stager of Lumberton, TX, Lauren & (Jay) Madan of Ellicott City, MD,  Christopher & (Sydni) Benso of Houston, TX,  Joy & (Adam) Glanville of Houston, TX and Eric & (Priscilla) Eaton of Katy, TX. Great-Grandchildren:  Chloe & Nicholas Crouch, Jonah & Austin Casper, Archer Eaton, Daniel Stager, Adelie & Aidan Stager, Gabby & Dylan Fenton, Felicity Fry, Alexa Riley, Dessie Jagneaux, Brenden, Braely & Blaycie Fenter. Sister-in-law:  Mary & (Winston) Adams of Santa Fe, TX; Sisters:  Selma Bauer, Mick & (Don) Wiggins, Dot Whicker all of Texas City, Norma & (Wayne) Doss, Santa Fe, Texas City, Esther  & (Yates) Smith of San Angelo, TX, Irma Alpers of Wichita, KS and her brother, Eddie Krenz of Texas City.  Numerous nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. Her Godchildren:  Robbynn Krenz Selzer &  Rick Krenz.

Gertrude was a fun, vibrant, one-of-a-kind person that everyone loved.  She was a faithful servant to her God, her family and her friends.  Well done, thou good and faithful servant.

Her favorite part of a bible verse was:  Rev. 2:10  “Be thou faithful Unto Death and I will give thee a crown of life”.

Visitation will be at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church 9111 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 2:00pm with Pastor Matthew Brackman officiating.
Graveside service will be at Hayes Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock, TX.

Pallbearers are her grandchildren:  Phil, Jeremy, Jennifer, Andy, Christopher, Joy & Eric.

Her family would like to express heartfelt thanks to:  Dr. Ana Rotkiewicz, Dr. Silva, Dr. Washington, Guardian Angel Home Health Care staff: Geneva, Lindsey, Amanda, Jennifer & Melissa. Physical Therapy:  Dee & Manny. AMED Community Hospice staff, Stacey, Karyn, Marek, Jason & Torri.

Thanks to  Pastor Brackman for the loving and supportive care of Gertrude!

Gertrude was lovingly cared for by her daughter Carol Casper and husband Jerry along with support help from her children:  James, Debbie, Sandra, Bob, Beth, Marty, Karl & Sudie.
