Gerald George Voelkel
Gerald (Jerry) George Voelkel, Jr., 65, was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on October 2, 1947. He passed away April 18, 2013 in League City, TX. He is preceded in death by parents, Winnie Lue Voelkel Putegnat and Gerald G. Voelkel, Sr.
Gerald is survived by sisters, Virginia Fort and friend Lorraine Fredrickson of Big Bear Lake, California, and Bennie and husband Richard Anderson of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; brother, David Voelkel and wife Betty of League City, TX; nieces and nephews, Jessica Goertz Temes and husband Jeffery of Brea, CA., Peter and Benjamin Zorotovic of Kentucky; Jason Voelkel and wife Kimberly of Pearland, TX, and Laurie Voelkel Berkenstock and husband Christopher of Alvin, TX; great nephews, Evan Temes, Nikolaus and Jacob Voelkel, and Sebastian and Hayden Berkenstock.
Gerald spent most of his childhood in Galveston, TX, graduating from Ball High School in 1968. After attending Galveston Community College, Gerald joined the Army in July of 1970 and did three tours to include overseas assignments in the Republic of South Vietnam, Germany, Panama and Thailand. Upon leaving the Army in February of 1981, Gerald moved to La Marque, TX and worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District for 25 years as a surveying technician and civil engineering technician. Gerald retired from Federal Service in 2008.
Gerald was a very quiet, kind, and caring person. He always believed in helping others and made donations to many charities. He will be missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive guests from 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2013 with 5:30 pm Funeral Services to follow at Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas 77591.
