George O. McCullen
George O. McCullen, 70 of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on November 2, 2019. George, the second of five children, was born to Murff McCullen, DDS, and Patsy Connor McCullen, on April 3, 2019 in Port Arthur, Texas. He attended Pasadena schools and graduated from Pasadena High School in 1967. George was a musician, playing both the Tuba and the Bass Fiddle. He was a member of the band and orchestra at Pasadena High School for three years, serving as an officer his junior and senior years, and as Band Captain his senior year. The popularity of The Beatles was at its peak while he was in high school, and he performed their music as a member of the quartet "John, Paul, George and Robert."
George served on the Student Council his senior year, and was active three years in the Interact Club, the high school service organization sponsored by the Pasadena Rotary Club. He served as an officer his junior and senior years; he was Recording Secretary his senior year.
George went on to the University of Texas at Austin where he played Tuba for the Mighty Texas Longhorn marching band. He graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1971 and went on to work for several accounting firms before retiring early.
George enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities including landscaping, gardening and building fires. He loved playing Bridge and played in the same Bridge group for over 30 years. George also loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many sporting events.
George was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He was a member and dedicated volunteer at the Pasadena United Methodist Church with the Levites where he could be found changing out lightbulbs and AC filters and helping with the Rotary food service. He also enjoined singing in the church choir. George will be remembered for his kind and loving personality, his humbleness and intelligence and his dry sense of humor. We have fond memories of him playing Monopoly and Rummikub, having bon fires and trimming every limb he could get his hands on.
George is preceded in death by his parents Murff McCullen, DDS, and Patsy Connor McCullen, his brother Michael Murff McCullen.
George is survived by Mary, his wife of 27 years, and Mary’s children, Daniel Cousins of Houston, Texas and Sandra Stanford and son-in-law Chad Stanford of Friendswood, Texas; and grandchildren, Chase and wife Vicky of Houston, Texas; Clayton and Connor Stanford of Friendswood, Texas
George’s siblings and their families are: Patrice and husband Barry Schexnayder and sons William, and John and wife Amie and their children, Madison and Dexter; Elizabeth and daughter Sarah and husband Air Force Colonel Christopher Lochridge, and their children, Sean and Remington; Molly and husband Mike Weingart and daughters Kristen, and Tiffany and husband Tommy Trantham and their children Jaxon, Tanner and Eileen; and Peggy Connor and children, Dustin Schlain, Megan Schlain, and Jessica and husband Navy Petty Officer First Class Timothy Bleigh and their children, T. J. and Marissa. Many cousins also survive him.
